Valentine's day will be here in literally less than four days now and while everyone else will be prancing around in pink and red dresses, I thought it would be fun to show off a more refined and sophisticated style, in this black jumper from Deb. The caged detail on the front and side plus the scooping back will definitely garner lots of attention!

The "style gene" seems to runs in our family, so I'm super excited that she has started blogging and that I am able to keep up with her elegant styles. " I feel honored to be asked to do a guest post from my inspiring cousin, Kiki! Ms. Leggett is one of the reasons I started blogging and I have been learning the in’s and out’s ever since. Lately I have been obsessed with the color white, so I decided to pair it with a piece to make it pop. The blazer and sweater I purchased over the summer from JCpenny’s while on sale for less than $15.00. My flats are from Kohl’s and are Candies brand ($25), a brand I am dearly in love with. My little black and gold clutch was passed down from my great aunt. Nothing completes an outfit out better than pink, a color that I am also flattered by. I've come to find that once you wear a color often, you begin to make a statement and people notice that you look remarkable in that color.What's odd is that I was turned off by mixing different colors a few years ago, but my whole outlook on fashion and dressing has changed since then. I tend to go for a more classic simple look now that is not to over the top with poppy colors. The most important factor is to always dress comfortable."

 Dear February, 

I may not have a Valentine, but I can already tell that we are going to be good friends. You've come along and thus far allowed me to take time out to actually fix up and be cute. January had me in a bit of a choke hold, and even worse, a daily uniform of baseball caps and leggings. We all know nothing about baseball caps and leggings is very sophisticated. February, I appreciate you for allowing me to tap back into my sophisticated side on Saturday with this little ensemble. My L.O.V.E. sweatshirt from Deb, paired with a comfy black skirt, killer cheetah print lace up booties, a cute quilted bag (all from Deb) and a gold studded beanie. The perfect outfit for a day of shopping and maybe a trip to the nail salon. February, you were already my favorite because when you come around so do Reese's Peanut butter hearts, but now that you've helped me get my sophistication back, I love you even more. Thanks for being the best.

For the King

As much as I would love to step out into the cold wearing my orange Tracy Reese coat on a daily basis, I've had to come to grips with the fact that its not an everyday coat. But, two Sunday's ago I took it off the hanger for the first time in a while and got snazzy for the King. My friends and I made a trip down Tobacco Road to hear former NAACP President, Ben Jealous speak at Duke Chapel for the University's annual celebration the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Here lately I've been swamped with school work and one very special application, so baseball caps and beanies have pretty much been my daily uniform. I relished this small break from the hoopla that's been keeping me busy. Underneath my coat I was dressed in a creme blouse and khaki colored slacks, it was too cold for a photo without it. Since this event was at Duke Chapel, I was concerned that my outfit may be a little bold so balancing out the orange and blue I wore the muted colors underneath. 

I had a great time celebrating Dr. King's legacy and thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Jealous' message. I heard him speak once before at the 2012 DNC and both times I was a blown away by his speaking skills. Members of the Nubian Message staff and I managed to snap a picture with him (and show him a copy of our newspaper) after the event was over!
