32 Flavors

Every now and then I run across an album or song that seems to be the current soundtrack for my life. Lately that soundtrack has included a little of Melanie Fiona's sophomore album The MF Life, but even more of music new comer, Elle Varner's mixtape Conversational LushInspired by the bright colors on the cover art of Elle's mixtape, I decided to put together this little combination.

My favorite song on Elle's mixtape is hands down the track "32 Flavors," hence the title of this post. Check these lyrics from the song:

"Squint your eyes, and look closer
I'm not between you and your ambition
I'm a poster girl with no poster
I am 32 flavors and then some
I'm beyond your peripheral vision
So you might wanna turn your head
Cause one day you might find you are hungry
And eating most of the words you just--
Said"

My colorful outfit consisted of a purple v-neck tee from Gap, yellow capris from T.J. Maxx, pink Nine West  Wedges, and this multi-colored beaded necklace that I adore from Rue21. My pink purse is from the Jessica Simpson Collection. I was a little hesitant at first to wear all of these bright colors, but hey--every now and then you've got to take a fashion risk!

Would you every wear this many colors at once?

What's a Girl To Do!?

What's a girl to do when she's home for the weekend with plans of recouping from a long stressful week at school, and unexpectedly is asked to dinner and a movie? Well, in the event that this girl is me (and as fate would have it, she was) she runs to her local Ross and scours the racks looking for something, anything to wear for the night!

Luckily this girl was able to find a charming snake skin print dress for only $8.99 on those Ross racks-- major crisis avoided! This girl has also learned her lesson, and will always come home prepared for any style occasion that may transpire outside of her living room.

Even though a line of nasty storms moving up the East Coast ended up raining on my parade-- literally, I was still happy to have lucked up on this cute little dress!

Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets

I don't know about you guys, but the Pepsi commercial featuring Sofia Vergara is one of my favorites on t.v. right now. In it, sexy screen siren, Sofia Vergara sashays her way around in a blue cocktail dress in an effort to get a diet Pepsi. Along the way, potential suitors ask her to dance. All the while in the song "Whatever Lola Wants," plays in the background. On Saturday March 17, I decided to channel my inner Lola for Radio One's 2012 Women's Empowerment

Dressed in red ankle pants from The Limited, my cheetah print dress from my earlier Keeping Up With The Kardashians post worn as a shirt, black pumps and black belt, I made my way to the PNC center to hear keynote speaker Tyra Banks and see preformances from Robin Thicke, Anthony Hamilton, and Wale. Real Housewife Nene Leaks was there, as well as tv/ radio personality Rocsi Diaz, who my friend Chanelle and I managed to snap a picture with!

Obama '12!
This was my first time attending the annual Radio One Women's Empowerment event. Hopefully it will not be my last. I heard lots of inspiring words and met some incredible women. The highlight of my day though, had to be hearing Tyra Banks speak. She gave a shout out to the Wolfpack (my school!), taught the audience how to "booty tooch," and even showed off her Spanx. But, when she got down to the meat of her speech, everyone in the audience felt compelled to work toward accomplishing all their dreams and though I can only speak for myself, motivated to leave a lasting impact on this world.

I was attempting to give a little "side booty tooch" in the last picture, but because my booty is just that-- little-- I'm not sure that it gave the same effect as Tyra's below. Lol, oh well!

If Double Denim Is Wrong...

I don't want to be right.

That simple.

For those of you who don't know, I recently scored my first internship with CocoKouture Magazine. This internship came complete with my own [super cute and trendy] business cards, CocoKouture t-shirt, and  my picture and bio on the site. For the magazine, my first official  assignment was to write a piece on the Canadian Tuxedo. Was I excited?  Yes, to say the least. Was I equally  panicked? Absolutely, because I had no idea what the heck a Canadian Tuxedo was! After a little research however, I realized that my ignorance of the tux, was completely understandable as the trend was sent into fashion exile, way before I owned my first pair of Limited Too Jeans.

You can check out m finished article here.
Anyways-- after having written this article, I'd been itching to try out the (once) taboo denim on denim look. Home for Spring Break (lame, I know) I decided to experiment with my sister's denim top, my own jeans, and my mother's faux pearl necklace from New York & Company. For an overall masculine look, the pearls add just the right touch of femininity and glam factor!

So, what 's your take? Would you rock a Canadian Tuxedo, or is it for the birds?
I personally love the concept!

I felt so retro, relaxed and down right groovy in this outfit. With my big bug eye shades on, the sun shinning on my face, and gas in my tank I spent the day cruising around with the sunroof open and my music blasting.
Hello Spring!

P.S. Also take a look at the piece I wrote on Brittany and Georgie of the blog High Heels and Big Dreams. They are fab! http://www.cocokouture.com/style/blog-spotter-high-heels-big-dreams
